There are places where the land feels like it is speaking.

Sedona is often described this way. People use words like vortex, energy, or activation. Whether or not we use those words, many who spend time there notice something subtle but real: a heightened awareness… a sense of being more present in one’s own body.

I recently attended the Sedona Ascension Retreat—my first time visiting Sedona—and found myself drawn into a different kind of awareness of the land.

As I spent time among the red rock formations, I found myself drawn not only to their beauty but to their structure.

The deep red color comes from iron that has oxidized over time.
The towering buttes rise vertically from the earth, as if forming a natural axis between ground and sky.

And quietly, almost without effort, a parallel began to form in my awareness.

We, too, carry iron in our blood.
We, too, stand upright—aligned between earth and sky.

A Subtle Recognition

It would be easy to stop at a metaphor. But what emerged for me was less symbolic and more recognition.

The same elements that shape the land… exist within us. The same forces that move through nature… move through our bodies. Not in a dramatic or mystical sense, but in a simple, continuous way:

• circulation

• electrical signaling

• magnetic orientation

• breath rising and falling

There is a flow already happening.

The Question of “Energy”

In places like Sedona, we sometimes ask:
Is there really a vortex here?

But another question may be just as meaningful:

What if the “vortex” is not something separate from us… but something we are already part of?

Perhaps what we feel in certain places is not something being added to us, but something in us being noticed.

A resonance. A remembering.

Vertical and Alive

Standing among the buttes, I became aware of my own posture.

Feet on the ground. Spine rising upward. Breath moving through the center. Not trying to reach anything. Not trying to receive anything.

Just… aligned.

In recent years, I’ve come to understand this as something I call a Breath Anchor— a quiet returning to the body as a place of steadiness and awareness.

Not as a technique to master, but as a way of being present enough to notice what is already here. In that moment, the landscape and the body did not feel separate. Both were expressions of structure. Both were expressions of flow

Perhaps the invitation is simply this:

To pause.
To feel the body from within.
To notice the quiet movement already happening.

And to recognize that we are not observers of nature…

We are participants in it.

Whether we describe it as energy, presence, or simply awareness, there is something steady moving through all things.

The land expresses it. The body expresses it. Life expresses it.

And sometimes, in certain places—or certain moments—
We remember.
