Cactus Blossoms: Poetry In (and Beyond) Gila River Saturday, May 18th at 2 PM, Emeryville Sponsored by J-SEI
Archeologist Koji Lau-Ozawa and poet Brynn Saito share their journey rediscovering Cactus Blossoms, an anthology of poetry written by high school students who were incarcerated at the Gila River camp during World War II. From striking desert imagery to prayerful longings for freedom, the poems express the complex inner life of those confined in the Arizona desert. Brynn and Koji—both yonsei descendants of grandparents incarcerated at Gila River—embarked on a quest to find and interview the Cactus Blossom poets. They’ll share about their journey and discuss the unique intersection of poetry, memory, and history.
Brynn Saito will close the event with a reading from Under a Future Sky, her latest book of poems inspired by a pilgrimage she took with her father to Gila River in 2019. RSVP for in-person or online.

Tammy Langowski, Psychic Intuitive
Tammy has lived most of her life in the Bay Area, with a few years in Alaska (where she was born), Hawaii and Germany. Her interests in intuitive development happened over time. As a child she was interested in the paranormal, but it wasn't until her early 20's that she explored and participated in intuitive development classes and lectures. Tammy worked in human resources for many years as an admin asst and was a stay-at-home mom after that, giving readings on the side. Her abilities had become more defined as she devoted more time to them… In time her clairaudience became stronger enabling her to hear her guides and their messages… Tammy has helped spirits cross over, given many healings, communicated with animals, given guidance and has assisted as a support to those who have lost loved ones. Gratitude...it's one thing she believes most passionately about.

Traditional Indian Hatha Yoga for Women and Men of Any Age and Physical Condition
Yoga is not a panacea for all of our physical and mental problems; however, it has improved the quality of my life tremendously. Obviously I cannot run full-court basketball like I used to when I was in high school, but in many ways I am healthier now than I was when I was in my teens and twenties. This is thanks to all of my yoga teachers and classmates who conveyed through example that yoga is not physical exercise, but a total lifestyle. This awareness led me to train in India and learn from the Masters in Northern India (Rishikesh) and Nasik, Maharashtra. I was eventually able to challenge the national Government of India, Ministry of AYUSH Yoga Certification Board exam and passed as a Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist thanks to the guidance, support and training from Guruji and instructors at Yoga Vidya Gurukul.

Adam Moskowitz: Mindfulness Facilitator | MBSR Instructor
I am an educator and facilitator of mindfulness, meditation, and stress reduction, offering sessions, workshops, retreats, consulting, and more to the general public, organizations, schools, companies, and individuals. Some words that illustrate my north star and the central theme that inspires the work that I offer are beingness, presence, embodiment, freedom, and love. I wholeheartedly believe that the progress and evolution of our world relies on our capacity to see ourselves more clearly and heal the difficulties and fragments that live in our bodies, hearts, and minds. I deeply care about all people having access to spaces where they can discover awareness and ease within, for us humans to learn to connect with our essence, and for that discovery to inspire our lives, relationships, and the world as a whole.

Living Stillness Retreat by Adam Moskowitz/Sara Carr
Nov 14-17, 2024
You are invited to gather in a beautiful, communal setting to rediscover the vibrancy of the present moment. On retreat, we take refuge in nature, quiet, togetherness, and an ancient rhythm; we harmonize with the depth of loving-awareness within, opening up to a kind of spacious ease that feels new and beautiful yet somehow familiar.
The structure and protective environment of retreat supports us to let go of our demanding routines and surrender the exhausting pursuit of endlessly edging away from the here and now
As we enter sacred space together and finally agree to put down the perpetual doing, we begin to develop a skillful and genuine relationship with our being, our pristine aliveness that is free of our conditioned, intellectual filters—yet imbued with intuition, wisdom, and heart. As we deepen our practice, we sense the depth of unconditional love in our hearts and discover that all moments offer the potential to help us awaken, enjoy, and be more kind.

Camille Obata, Spiritual Attunements Offerings
Camille offers online Tarot/Oracle Card readings, Astrology Birth Charts, and Astrology Group sessions.
I began to explore my own astrological birth chart in 2018. I have always been highly self-reflective and value the time I spend for personal growth and healing. Because I believe that the divine can be experienced within everything (every person), I believe that getting to know myself is one way to deepen my understanding of the divine. I wanted to find astrology resources by women of color because it felt (and still feels) important to seek any and all ways decolonize my spirituality. I deepened my exploration when taking a workshop centered around Chani Nicholas' book You Were Born For This. I currently use Chani's book as a resource in conjunction with my intuition and the energy I pick up from the person whose chart I am interpreting.

Jeff Sera, Reiki Practitioner
Your body is capable of healing itself, when you get a cut your system goes to work to regenerate the cells and heal itself. If you were to sit and meditate, you could speed up your own healing process.
Reiki practice is like an external battery pack of that same energy, a connection to Source, channeling energy for your body to do what it naturally does on its own.
As a Reiki practitioner, I become like a straw between Source and the individual, or a cable between the battery pack and the phone to allow the energy to be transferred and used wherever that person needs it the most. In person, I use a hands-on technique to transfer the energy, in order to support emotional or physical healing. At a distance, I use a special technique and intention to support healing over a virtual call.
